ISC II ToC teams place 2nd, 4th & 5th at OASA “Intermediate” elims

Monday, August 7th, 2006

editor’s note: As we noted earlier, the OASA eliminations this year featured only a two-team senior division as St. Thomas & Jarvis were the only two teams prepared to go to Prince George, BC for the Senior Canadians, so the intermediate division was stacked with senior/ISC pitchers, including Don Scott, Todd Martin, Wayne Wells, Jason Smith and others. Congratulations to Port Elgin Blue Devils on their silver medal. Finishing fourth was the bulk of the Toronto Champion Indians (playing as East York) and fifth was the defending ISC II Champion Elmira Cubs.

OASA “Intermediate” Eliminations Scores

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

editor’s note: Several teams that will be in the 2006 ISC II ToC are in action this weekend at the OASA “Intermediate” Eliminations. However, because only two Ontario teams are competing in the Senior eliminations, several senior/ISC pitchers are playing in the intermediate division this year, including 2/3 of the Kitchener Twins staff: Todd Martin & Don Scott. Should be an interesting weekend with $2000 going to the winner. No one is actually expected to bother with the Eastern Canadians should they win. The defending champions are Palermo Athletics. Teams from the ISC II ToC are in bold.

International Fastball
Comes Back To Owen Sound!

It has been 4 years since a team from outside of Canada has played in Owen Sound but August 8 and 9th will mark the return of International Fastball to Duncan McLennan Park.

A team spearheaded by Bill Simpson which includes local talent from the Owen Sound Crunch, Port Elgin Blue Devils, and past Owen Sound Selects will take on international teams from the Czech Republic and Denmark. Both teams are preparing for the ISC World Championships that are being held in Kitchener, Ontario August 11-19th.

This is not the first time that international teams have come to Owen Sound. For the past 35 years, teams have visited the city which included teams from the Bahamas, Barbados, Virgin Islands, New Zealand, Australia, and Czech Republic (2002). Several teams from the United States have entertained the local crowds too (Midland Explorers, Madison Wisconsin, and Penn Corp from Sioux City Iowa)

The Czech Republic will play the Owen Sound squad on Tuesday August 8th and the Denmark squad will come into town on Wednesday August 9th. Each night will consist of a doubleheader with games starting at 7:15 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Costs to get into each doubleheader will be $5.00. All proceeds will go to the Owen Sound Midget Selects Fastball Team.

Come out to experience fastball at its best!

Defending ISC II Champs Elmira Win a Thriller at Innerkip

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

From the Sentinenel Review newspaper in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada:

Elmira wins thriller
TOUCHING BASE: Elmira wins Innerkip tournament

By Bruce Urquhart – STAFF WRITER

INNERKIP – The true test of any successful fastball tournament is the calibre of teams it can attract over the two or three days on the diamond. Regardless of beer sales and 50-50 draws, a tournament can’t be considered a winner unless it garners a few of the province’s more high-profile teams. The 2006 Innerkip Eagles Intermediate Fastball Tournament, while not the season’s biggest, definitely passed this admittedly narrow test, attracting some stellar teams to the three-day event.

Sunday’s championship game was a perfect case in point. With the Elmira Cubs, the defending ISC II champions, facing the Toronto Champion Indians, the reigning Ontario Challenge Cup champions, the fans were already expecting an exciting game.

Wyevale tournament features #3 Port Elgin & unranked Orangeville

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

The Wyevale Tribe Fastball Club held it’s annual Canada Day Tournament this past weekend, and the Bucktown Bees came out on top nipping Napanee 6-5 in the final.

Minesing pull out a 7-6 win over the Toronto Bingos in the B Final. The scores and stats as best we could decipher were as follows. We would like to thank all who participated this year. We believe it was a undeniable success and we look forward to improving on it next year.

Wyevale Tribe

Editor’s Note: A number of players in this tournament will also be in action at the ToC, including Palermo’s Chris McColl, who was with Toronto Bingos, Wyevale’s Jason Giffen who is rumoured to be going with Toronto Indians, Milverton’s Nic Goetz, who pitches ISC II with Harriston and Jeff Detta who will be with Elora Brewers.
