#22 ISC II JRW & Associates of Yakima at DeMarini Rose Cup

Portland, Oregon – What do the following nine world class pitchers have in common ……..

# 8 ISC ranked SoCal Bombers,
Travis Price
Tyson Barkman (18 yr. old prodigy from the recent Jr. Men World Championship)

# 14 ISC II ranked California Lumberkings.
Sonny Perkins
Jon Nimmo

# 36 ISC ranked Prince George Black Bears
Sean Whitten
Craig Pidcock

# 16 ISC ranked CR/Portland
Mark Bennett
Terry Luster
Mike Piechnik

They all threw against JRW & Associates in the Rose Cup in Portland, Oregon.

JRW & Associates did have a measure of success against these pitchers with one HR, 7 runs scored and 17 hits. And this was with 5 JRW starters and 3 ASA Class C pick-ups out of Portland to make 8 position players for the weekend.

Two of JRW’s four opponents – CR/Portland and the SoCal Bombers – finished 1 & 2 in the Rose Cup.

It certainly prepared JRW for the flame throwers they will meet in the ISC II Tournament of Champions (ToC).

It is measure of some respect that most teams throw their ace at the Associates.

Line scores for # 22 ranked JRW & Associates games were posted on Al’s Fastball list and summarized on Jim Flanagan’s Fastpitch West web site.

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

JRW & Associates of Yakima Thrice a Bridesmaid

Mt. Vernon, WA – A third place finish at the Skagit Invite on June 18th left JRW & Associates of Yakima, WA at the altar for the third straight weekend.

Two weekends ago (June 4) at the Rich Rice Memorial Tourn. In Wenatchee, WA, the JRW team was 1-1 in pool play and set to play the Northwest Merchants (NWM) of Lacey, WA in their next game. NWM are unranked as they are only playing a limited weekend schedule.

Mike Egerdeen had pitched the initial 11-1 victory for JRW. The loss came in the second game as JRW’s Masters pitcher Wade Liberty gave up 7 runs in the first two innings. Egerdeen came in and stopped the carnage, but JRW could only get 5 runs back. Egerdeen, nursing a calf injury on the mend, had to come right back against NWM and lasted 4 innings. JRW Masters pitcher Wade Liberty held the NWM for two more innings, but NWM scored 3 in the top of the 7th. NWM Kurt Penner shut JRW down in B7 for the 7-5 win.

ISC II pair tied for #3 in California Top 10

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

Sledgehammer22 is back with his latest Top 10 Rankings for California. Tied at #3 are a pair of ISC II teams: Hayward A-1 Tank and Bakersfield Lumberkings. Both teams are next in action at the Portland, OR Rose Cup.

For the full California Top 10, click here.

3 Tied. A-1 Tank- The Tank has had a few weeks off which could prove to hurt them as they were supposed to have Reno as a tune up for the Rose Cup. The ISC II doesn’t show them much love in the rankings but that’s mainly because their pitchers are unknown to the ISC II crowd. Zack Abernathy leads the way at the top of the lineup with a fiery attitude and spark plug mentality.

3 Tied. Bakerfield Lumberkings- I admit, I thought these guys would be done by now but they’ve proven to be here to stay. The ISC II committee must have seen something in the recent additions of Strang and Nimmo as they were boosted all the way to 13 in the June ISC II rankings. The Lumberkings have been playing a ruthless schedule and have been holding their own with tough ISC opponents. Having Sonny Perkins on the team has given them confidence and they show it when they play.

Interesting to note that this game featured the Host team for the 2006 ISC World Tournament being held in Kitchener, August 11-19 AND the Host team for the ISC II Tournament of Champions being held in Kitchener and Cambridge August 13-18. Also interesting to note that both pitchers are well known in the area and are named Todd, Winkworth for Bridgeport and for their cross town friends, Martin for Twins.

If anyone ever had any doubt about the quality of play one can expect at an ISC II tournament, this game in particular, and the play by both the Braves of Bridgeport and the Cubs of Elmira, should put it to bed for good. Both teams played their hearts out and went home proud. They also behaved like gentlemen on and off the field all weekend. Congratulations to both the Braves and the Cubs. Larry Lynch and his group did a good thing bringing in these two popular local teams.

Elmira Cubs at Orillia Riversharks
