ISC II #34 Mississauga Arrows open league season at 3-0

THE MISSISSAUGA NEWS
Arrows win pair

The Mississauga News
Jun 3, 2005

The Mississauga Arrows ran their record to 3-0 in the Golden Horseshoe Fastball League (GHFL) with a pair of victories this week over the Waterdown Coyotes and Morriston A’s.
Travelling to Waterdown on Monday night, the Arrows banged out 15 hits en route to a 10-4 pasting of the Coyotes.

Tom Fortune and Tim Coe led the Arrows attack with Fortune going 3-4 on the night with two doubles and two RBIs.

Coe was 3-3 with a walk, double, triple and three RBIs. Jeff Beange was 2-4 with an RBI and Blair Setford was 1-2 with sacrifice fly RBI and a double.

Adam Lebrun picked up the win for the Arrows on the mound, his first of the season, giving up nine hits and the four Coyote runs. Lebrun struck out eight and walked one.

Playing at their home diamond at Meadowvale Sports Park on Wednesday, the Arrows edged Morriston, 5-4, snuffing out a furious A’s rally in the top of the seventh inning, throwing out the tying run at the plate.

The Arrows built a 5-0 lead on the strength of two RBI singles by Drew Hathway to score Mike Welton in the third and again in the fifth. Welton, who was 3-3 on the night, drove in Vince Oliver in the third.

The Arrows are at home next Wednesday to St. Catharines Red Hot Chili Pepper before travelling to Niagara Falls next Thursday to face Niagara Falls Fury.

The Arrows made a successful debut last week when they defeated the Niagara Falls Cool Hand Luke’s, 1-0, in an extra-innings thriller.

Hathway picked up the win for the Arrows, scattering seven hits over eight innings of work while striking out four.

The Arrows play in the 13-team Golden Horseshoe Fastball League with Wednesday night home games starting at 8:30 p.m. at Meadowvale Sports Park.
