#5 Ashland Stockpack win Elkhart, IN tourney

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

In its final tune-up before the ISC II Tournament of Champions, the #5 ranked Ashland, OH Stock Pack team won the Elkhart, IN tournament this past weekend posting a 5-1 record and improving their overall tournament record to 17-5-1 on the year. Stock Pack started the day on Saturday by losing to the host Duncan Outlaws, but responded by bouncing back to win their next two games vs. the DC Current and Kelder¢s of Ludington, MI. On Sunday, Stock Pack started out the day by beating the Goshen, IN Gators, and then followed that victory up by avenging their previous loss to Duncan. In the finals, Stock Pack beat the Michigan Twisters (who had advanced to the finals by beating the Rice Creek Lightning) 8-3. On the mound, pitchers Ty McKinney and Jim Yates both had fine weekends. Ty was the winning pitcher in each of the 5 victories, but Jim Yates logged many innings throughout the weekend and threw the ball well the entire tournament. McKinney also led Stock Pack at the plate hitting .529 with 1 HR. Other leading hitters for the weekend included: Trevor Urban (.444, 2 HR) , Jr. Rodriguez (.316), Jason Whiteley (.381, 1 HR), Chad Honaker (.333, 1 HR) and Pete Spoerl (.368). Stock Pack is looking forward to this coming weekend as they travel to Appleton, WI in hopes of improving on their back to back 5th place finishes.

Cobourg Force win OASA Intermediate Eliminations

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Courtesy Al Doran

Cobourg Force won the Intermediate Championship on Sunday defeating Alvinston 3-0 in Game 1 to win.

Cobourg Force defeated Ottawa Easton 10-3 in the winners category.

Ottawa Easton then lost to Alvinston Indians, who had defeated the Elmira Cubs in the bottom of the seventh.

Sunday turned out beautiful, some sun and good wind to dry the diamonds out along with some good fastball.

On behalf of Cobourg Legion Minor Softball we want to thank everyone who came out and who followed it on the internet.

We had some visitors to Legion Fields who had never seen the diamonds and were impressed with the facility. As we all know it’s the workers of the facility who make what it is, so we thank them again for their tremendous hard work and dedication over the weekend.

Thanks,
Greg Rylott and Scott Tuttle

Editor’s Note: Wayne Wells of Cobourg will be pitching for Waterdown Hammer next week at the ToC, while Gord Scott and Doug Charlton, who were on the mound for Alvinston will be with Palermo Athletics. One of the biggest questions will be whether or not Corey Costello will be making the trip to Wisconsin with Ottawa Team Easton Thunder. Finishing fourth won’t be enough to satisfy Elmira as they will look to return to the dominating form they showed in Harriston/Palmerston.

Elmira will be in the first Ballpark Radio broadcast on Sunday at 10:30 am central time vs Hoffman Rise while Waterdown will follow at 12:30 pm vs Keating’s Fitness.
