ISC II #14 Palermo Athletics split with ISC II #28 Niagara Snappers

Friday, May 20th, 2005

Palermo Athletics came to Niagara-on-the-Lake to take on the Snappers in
game #9 and #10 of the Schneider’s ISC Alliance schedule. Great pitching
was the highlight of the night as Palermo and Niagara split the
doubleheader. That leaves Niagara Snappers 4-2 in the ISC league on the
season. Next action for the Snappers is on Thursday May 26th as the open
their GHFL season with a double header at home.

Game #9

Palermo 6 (wp – Gord Scott 7IP, 2R, 5H, 14K, 1BB)
Niagara 2 (lp – Byron Demoe 6IP, 3R, 7H, 7K, 4BB) (relief – Jim Wilson 1IP,
4R, 5H, 2K,)

Niagara Snappers struck first when, in the bottom of the first inning Scott
Young tripled with 2 out and the clean-up hitter Mike Bateman cashed him
with a 2-run home run. This would be all the Snappers could muster against
Gord Scott on the night as he shut them down the rest of the way. Palermo
chipped away at the lead and finally took the lead in the top of the 5th on
a fielders choice by Bob Blamauer . Palermo added some insurance in the top
of the 7th to seal the victory.

Game #10

Niagara 3 (wp – Dan Duemo 7IP, 2R, 7H, 11K)
Palermo 2 (lp – Mike Joseph 6IP, 3R, 6H, 6K)

A pitching duel dominated the second game of the doubleheader. Dan Duemo
improved to 3-0 in ISC play by shutting down Palermo’s explosive hitters
with some crafty pitching. Game was tied heading into the top of the 6th
when Brian Prowse lead off with a single and 2 batters later, a double by
Bob Blamauer brought him home to put Palermo up 2-1 heading into the bottom
of the 6th. Niagara struck back when Scott Young, Mike Bateman and Dean
Carr hit consecutive singles men on base to score 2 and put Niagara up 3-2.
Niagara holds off Palermo in the top of the 7th for the win.

ISC II #28 Niagara Snappers take 3 of 4 from ISC #7 Kitchener Twins

Friday, May 20th, 2005

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON

The Niagara Snappers opened their ISC season with back to back double
headers vs the Kitchener Hallman Twins. Here is a summary of the 4 games
played over the passed weekend. Complete game reports will be released
weekly on Al’s by ISC Statistician, Sue Sherry.

Here are the results from the Saturday double header in Niagara.

Game # 1
Niagara Snappers 5
Kitchener Twins 3
WP: Dan Duemo (1-0)
LP: Todd Martin (0-1)
Niagara opened the season in fine fashion with a 5-3 win over Twins in the
opening game of the double header. Dan Duemo went 7 strong innings earning
the win. Kitchener starter, Todd Martin pitched 7 innings taking the loss.
Niagara Snappers Scott Young and Jarrod Burtt homered to pace the Snappers
to the victory.

Game # 2
Kitchener Twins 5
Niagara Snappers 3
WP: Todd Martin (1-1), in relief of Jeremy deBelleval.
LP: Perry Bartley (0-1)
In the second game, The Twins came from behind for the 5-3 win. Todd Martin
in relief of Jeremy DeBelleval, grabbed the win. Perry Bartley took the
loss giving up two in the seventh with the game tied at 3. A strong start
by Niagara’s Byron Demoe was followed by 2 solid innings of relief by Mike
Bateman. Byron Demoe homered in the loss for Niagara.

Here are the results from the Sunday double header in Kitchener.

Game # 3
Niagara Snappers 6
Kitchener Twins 3
WP: Andy Jackson (1-0)
LP: Donny Scott (0-1)
The Snappers were down 3-1 going in to the top of the seventh. Twins
starter, Donny Scott was dominating early on, recording the first 9 outs of
the game all via the strikeout. The Snappers showed some character by not
getting down and Andy Jackson was stingy, keeping the game close and giving
the Snappers a chance. Todd Dawdy lead off the 7th with a solo HR to trim
the lead to 3-2. Three consecutive singles loaded the bases for Kevin
Newhouse. On a 1-2 pitch Newhouse belted a grand slam deep to CF. That put
Niagara ahead for good as Jackson finished strong for the win.

Game # 4
Niagara Snappers 7
Kitchener Twins 5
WP: Dan Duemo (2-0)
Save: Rob Fawcett (1)
LP: Dan Stebbings (0-1)

Niagara jumped out to an early 5-0 lead only to see the Twins battle back
and make a game of it.

The Snappers open the ISC league with an impressive 3-1 record. All in all,
a very surprising result considering this was Niagara’s first taste of top
level play. Going in to this weekend we were hoping to take 1 game from the
Twins. Winning 3 of the 4 games will boost the confidence of the team to
say the least. The weekend was not all positive as the Snappers lost the
services of lead off hitter and starting catcher Trevor Falk. Falk injured
a knee during the first at bat in the first game of the weekend while
attempting to beat out an infield ground ball. At this time, it is unknown
when Trevor will return to the lineup.

Next up for the Snappers are games #9 and #10 of the ISC travel league
schedule as they take on the Palermo Athletics at Memorial park in NOTL.
Start time for the first game is 7:15pm.
