Alvinston Indians win Pete Schwab Memorial

Frankenmuth, MI

The Alvinston Indians (Alvinston, Ontario) capped off an undefeated tournament by beating the Lightning (Marshall, MI) 1-0 in the championship game of the 8th Annual Pete Schwab Memorial Tournament which was also 2010 ISC II TOC Qualifying Event Winning pitcher and Tournament MVP Pitcher, Ryan Swift, scored the game’s only run on an inside-the-park HR to right-center field. Shaun Winship closed out the shut-out for his 3rd save of the day. The Alvinston Indians are the first and only repeat champions at the event.

The Twisters (Midland, MI) beat the Duncan Outlaws (Elkhart, IN) 5-1 in the ‘B’ playoff finals, while Gillies Fastpitch (Midland, MI) beat Carey Allstate Insurance (Midland, MI) by a score of 9-2 in the ‘C’ playoff finals.

MVP Pitcher for the tournament was Ryan Swift (Alvinston) with 3 Wins. MVP Hitter for the tournament was Trevor Kelly (Lightning).

For the first time, the tournament also served as a qualifying event for the 2010 ISC II Tournament of Champions (rumored to be headed to near-by Midland, MI). Tournament ISC Representative, Lee Isenhart, will be contacting and offering the bid to the top finishing eligible team(s) [an announcement will be made separately]. As a tournament organizing group, we are very grateful to the ISC for their support of the event.

I’d also like to give special thanks to the entire ‘blue-crew’ who did an outstanding job throughout the weekend. Your efforts and professionalism are greatly appreciated by all the players and fans!

Single elimination playoff games will begin at 8:30 am on Sunday morning. The top 8 teams from pool play (two from each bracket) will compete for the A bracket championship. The top finishing US East region team in the A playoff bracket will be offered a bid to the 2010 ISC II TOC. Top finishing teams from all regions will be eligible and given consideration for an additional at-large bid, if one becomes available. Additionally, the 3rd and 4th place teams from pool play will be organized into four-team B and C playoff brackets with the chance to win special prizes. The playoff schedule is as follows:
