Staten Island softball notebook: Adco falls short of goals

Adco Electric finished up their fastpitch season with what manager Peter Quaranta calls “disappointing” — at least by their lofty standards.

“We didn’t have a great tournament,” said Quaranta, whose club went 1-3 at the ISC II Fastpitch Championship in Rock Island, Ill. “It was a tough season for us overall. We never seemed to be at full strength until last weekend.”

“This was the toughest schedule we’ve ever played,” he added. “We played in the Mid Atlantic Premier Fastpitch Travel League, we played a couple of ISC qualifiers and we played in the Summit Fastpitch League (second place).”

“Fastpitch is just a different game than modified,” he continued. “The pitching dominates. You fall behind just one or two runs and it’s tough to catch up.”

Quaranta’s club opened the ISC II leading CPI (Dundas, Canada) 4-1 early, before dropping a 10-5 decision.

They followed with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to the Lamp Liter Inn (Iowa) and a 2-0 loss to the top ranked Bridgeport Braves (Ontario, Canada).

Not even a 5-2 tourney win over the Donnacona Blue Sox (Quebec, Canada) could get the Island entry into the elimination round.

“We got some good pitching from John Jones, Jeff Pleszewicz and Ryan Nichols,” said Quaranta. “And Dave Lohman and Jerry DeMatteo hit the ball well.”

“Overall it was a good learning experience for us, playing this type of competition almost every game,” he added.

ISC II Changes for 2010

August 31st, 2009

The following is a summary of changes approved by the ISC Board of Directors at the annual meeting in Quad Cities and take effect for the 2010 season that impact ISC II. Additional changes were approved that impact only WT teams. For more info click here.

Penalty for late entry fees – Any World Tournament or ISC II ToC team entry fees not received by July 20 will be assessed a $50 late fee.

Mercy Rule Changed – The ISC abandoned its 7-run mercy rule and adopted the ASA rule which is 15-run lead after 3 innings, 12-run lead after 4 innings or 7-run lead after 5 innings.

Entry Info Letters – Once a team has qualified for the World Tournament or ISC II ToC entry, the manager is sent an information letter giving him/her all information they need for entry. In the past these letters have been mailed via snail mail rather than email. Beginning in 2010, these letters will be sent to the team manager (or designated team rep) by email with copies to the Regional Commissioners, Vice President and Tournament Host.
