Streaming of Video and Audio Broadcasts from International Softball Congress Tournaments in Wisconsin Draw Larger Crowds

“Is anybody ‘out there’ listening? Or watching?”

Those questions are always a key concern when any form of communication is produced and presented to audiences – – particularly audiences which are not at the scene of the action being described.

Well, they WERE out there listening, and they WERE out there watching when the streaming of audio broadcasts and the live streaming video were coming from Eau Claire and Chippawa Falls, Wisconsin, last week during the I.S.C. World Tournament and the ISC-II Tournament of Champions.

The numbers are in, and they are good – – – VERY good! Read the rest of this entry »

All 2005 Broadcast Archives Now Available through Ballparkradio.com

August 25th, 2005

To all fastball fans:

The archives for the 2005 ISC II Tournament of Champions played at Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin are now available via Ballparkradio/Sportjuice. The 2005 Archive consists of 26 games.

For easy access:

* Go to Ballparkradio, http://www.ballparkradio.com
* Click the ISC II Tournament of Champions logo at the top of the main page;
* Once you get to the ISC II Sportsjuice page, hold down the Control Key (to avoid your pop-up blockers, if you use them) click on the green rectangle near the top right that says: archives
* From the drop down menu, choose the game you want to listen to and play.

Please Note: In all Sportsjuice archives, you can now scroll through the timeline of the game by clicking, holding, and dragging the slider bar to listen to whatever portion of the game you want. This is different from previous years’ archives, where Sportsjuice games
could only be heard linearly, from start to finish.

The ISC II scoreboard, with links to the box scores and play-by-play is a great companion while you’re listening. It enables you to jump around (fast forward or go backwards) during the broadcast to find a particular hit or play.

For those who have inquired, we will be making audio CD’s of the games available for purchase. Watch The Deuce Blog at Fastpitchwest.com (www.fastpitchwest.com/thedeuce) or Al’s Fastball for further announcements.

The ISC II broadcast crew sends out a big thank you to all who tuned into the broadcasts. We thoroughly enjoyed the hundreds of emails received from members of the listening audience, which topped 8,000 in terms of hits on the game links, and we appreciate the kind words and encouragement. All of us are looking forward to even bigger and better things in 2006 in Kitchener, ON.

Cheers,

Quite a Night for Ottawa Trio

Thunder’s ISC II Pitching Staff Holds Opposition to Three Hits in Three Games, with Cory Costello tossing a Perfecto

[Ottawa, ON]-On Wednesday August 24, in three different league playoffs games with their club teams, the three pitchers from the ISC II #3 Ottawa Team Easton Thunder squad all excelled after their return from the Tournament of Champions in Wisconsin.

At Stittsville, ON: Dan Bradley, pitching for Stittsville 56ers, threw a two hit complete game shutout over the Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric in a 1-0 victory. Bradley had seven strikeouts in the victory. Fitzroy Harbour pitcher Brad Porter, a pitcher on the 2004 roster for the Thunder, also threw a two hitter – the only run was unearned. Stittsville leads the Greater Ottawa Fastball League best-of-five semi-final two games to none.

At Manotick, ON: Dan Konkle, pitching for Kanata Team Easton, threw a one hit complete game shutout over the Manotick Lomor Printers in a 5-0 victory. Konkle had eighteen strikeouts in the victory, and did not go to more than two balls on any batter. Kanata leads the Greater Ottawa Fastball League best-of-five semi-final one game to none.

At Beachburg, ON: Corey Costello, pitching for the Micksburg Twins, threw a perfect game, his second of the season, in a 7-0 victory over Beachburg NRTco. Costello had sixteen strikeouts in the win. Micksburg defeated Beachburg three games to none and now move on the Upper Ottawa Valley Men’s Fastball League final against Campbell’s Bay, QC Royals.

In one night combined totals for Bradley, Konkle and Costello:
21 innings, 0 runs allowed, 3 hits, 3 walks, 41 strikeouts.

Editor’s Note re: Al’s Fastball Archives

August 25th, 2005

As a member of Al Doran’s Mailing List and daily reader of his Escribe archive, I was sorry to hear of the continuing problem in trying to restore service. [See Note from Al in story below] Al did a remarkable job at the ISC Word tournament, getting scores, boxes, play-by-play and more posted promptly to the ISC website, www.iscfastpitch.com. However, I think we all missed our daily dose from Al in the old familiar Escribe format for the mailing list archive. It was especially unfortunate that the crash took place during the ISC World Tournament.

Fastpitchwest.com has provided a temporary home for Al’s archives, and will continue to do so as long as necessary. We ask only that you bear with the fact that our archive page is a bit less user friendly than the old Escribe page. As Al noted:

“For now we are not calling it the TEMP site, its our only site at the moment.”

The biggest complaint about the archive page that we are hosting is that the newest items are at the bottom instead of the top of the page, requiring readers to scroll to the bottom to see the latest news. I have the same complaint myself. Unfortunately, the software that we use at present to generate the archive page for Al’s does not permit me to change that format. (Control-End keys together will take you quickly to the bottom of the page on most browsers)

While Al looks at his options, we are researching software that would archive the emails in a format similar to Escribe. In the meantime, we have shortend the URL to eliminate the “.htm” at the end, to simplify things, to just:

http://www.fastpitchwest.com/alsfastball

Please pass this web address/URL along to your friends so they can find Al’s Archive. You can bookmark it by clicking the link and then Control D.

Message from Al Doran re: Al’s Fastball Archives

August 25th, 2005

We pass along the following note from Al Doran regarding the recent problems the Escribe site that had been hosting his mailing list:

eScribe is down and maybe out, maybe for good.

eScribe went down over a week ago, just as the ISC’s were getting underway. This is not the first time they have crashed and been down for more than a few hours. In June 2004 they went down and were down for weeks while the owner bought and set up all new servers.

eScribe is privately owned, my company has nothing to do with it. Al’s Fastball is just one of hundreds of list servers that make use of the services provided by eScribe. This service has always been free.

Last year in June we learned that the owner, Scott Paterson, was working with a couple of unpaid volunteers to keep eScribe going. He had to buy expensive computer equipment to replace the servers that had worn out and died.

This week we learned that they major technical problems and the prognosis is not good.

See Scott’s note to me today:

Al

Dead power supply and lack of financial support and non-paid volunteers. Going to try to fix it myself as soon as I have time, but really, with no end-user financial support, it’s most likely done for.
-Scott

This does not sound good.
